Well I can't look in seller's head but in my opinion he actually believes he's giving a volume discount and is really cheap!!!

Among the other items of the seller you see the EMT 930 st. This is doubtless a very good record player but never worth 7.600 US$!! No cartridge/headshell, mediocre condition, wrong description of the tonearm and friction wheel to drive the platter is missing (that's one of the crucial parts!) If you get something between 1.500 to 2.000 Euros you've got a good price maybe it makes just between 1.000 to 1.500. Mulitply it with 1.3 and you've got the price in US$. Compared to this - a price somewhere between 2 to 3 times the market value the Altecs are definitely cheap!

This offer reminds me to the deal I got my first Altecs. I posted it somewhere on the board before: I got them from a corean guy who ran out of wealthy customers in his homeland. He had got 14 V73 tub amps and was in need of cash. That's not the same as 36 but nevertheless a nice collection. I bought all of them with a real volume discount and took the Altecs on top. If I had known this was the start of an addiction ... forums

AFAIK theses dealers build up quite large collections before they start selling. Strategy seems to be giving a pair to poeple having strong influence on other audiophiles, take benefit of their reputation and try to sell the rest for top dollars. But if things don't sell and you've got a whole collection you're in danger.

That's what I was told/I think and seems plausible to me - correct me if the info's wrong. It seems like in far east are still a lot of people who don't dare to buy the stuff directly - for whatever reason.

Isn't it funny: Audio gear from a beautynail shop ...
